GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY

Friday, August 18th, 2006

There was a theme on Wednesday at Stereo…it was shoes, or the lack of shoes and dirty downtown debauchery. I
discovered Steve Aoki is a really good DJ and Aron paints his toenails! It was a crazy crazy night.

In english I believe this is roughtly what is being said…

> Could you tell us more about OXY COTTONTAIL? How did it start and when? <
OXY COTTONTAIL CAME FROM MY FIXATION WITH RABBITS, BOOTY & DRUGS. I STARTED USING THE NAME "OXY COTTON" AS A PERSONA ON THE INFAMOUS PHILLY MESSAGEBOARD (WWW.ANTIBOARD.COM). JAYSON/PAPER BAG/PACKOFRATS FROM PLASTIC LITTLE SHOWED ME THE WORLD OF MESSAGEBOARDS WHICH I INSTANTLY BECAME ADDDICTED TO. THE NAME EVENTUALLY GOT THE “TAIL” ON THE END AFTER COMING ACROSS THE STORY OF PETER COTTONTAIL. AROUND THIS TIME I STARTED THROWING EVENTS UNDER THE NAME “OXY COTTONTAIL”, I HAD NICK CATCHDUBS DESIGN MY LOGO AND THE REST IS HISTORY.

> Are you from Philly originally? How was life growing up there? <
NO, I'M ORIGINALLY FROM MARYLAND, BORN IN DC, GREW U IN A DOPE CITY CALLED COLUMBIA MARYLAND. I MOVED TO NYC FOR COLLEGE AT 17 YEARS OLD, GRADUATED, 9/11 HAPPENED AND BUMMED ME OUT SO I MOVED TO PHILLY FOR A JOB DESIGNING ICED DOWN MEDALLIONS AND DISCOVERED HOLLERTRONIX. GROWING UP IN MARYLAND WAS AMAZING, THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT CULTURES CLASHING AND VARIOUS ECONOMIC CLASSES AND 2 MAJOR URBAN CITIES NEXT TO EACH OTHER - DC AND BALTIMORE VERY DOPE CITIES, SO IT WAS RAD. PHILLY WAS GREAT, MET SOME VERY CREATIVE PEOPLE THAT HAVE INSPIRED ME FOR LIFE. I STARTED GOIN TO HOLLERTRONIX PARTIES AND THAT LIT A FLAME IN MANY OF US. SPANKROCK, PLASTIC LITTLE, AMANDA, ME & MANY MORE I’M SURE GOT INSPIRED BY WES AND MIKE FOR MAKING SOMETHING SO ORIGINAL AND TRASHY. PHILLY MOVES TOO SLOW FOR ME SO I MADE IT BACK TO NYC AFTER 9 MONTHS OF PHILLY LIFE AND BROUGHT EVERYONE WITH ME AND STARTED THROWING PARTIES.
> What is your guideline when organising parties? How do you find the places and what kind of crowd is attending them? <
THE OXY GUIDELINE TO ORGANIZING PARTIES?? IDEALLY, HOT FLYERS, SHAMELESS PROMOTION, HOT TALENT, HOT GIRLS & FREE LIQUOR. I FIND VENUES MANY WAYS, MOSTLY WORD OF MOUTH AND JUST MEETING PEOPLE. THE NYC CROWD IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL MIX OF KIDS. MOSTLY UNDER 30, CREATIVE, EVERY RACE IS REPRESENTED, THEY HAVE STYLE AND FINESSE, GOOD DANCERS TOO. THEY MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS AND DO THE DAMN THING.

> You became a really famous chick in NYC’ s hipster culture…and that’s quite impressiv for a city like New York. How do you explain that? <
DANG, THANK YOU! I'D HAVE TO SAY RELENTLESS SELF PROMOTION AND A CURATOR OF GOOD MUSIC. THE TALENT I BOOK IS OFTEN AMAZING SO IN TURN THAT SOMEHOW RUBS OFF ON MY REPUTATION I THINK. ALSO, I'M IN YOUR FACE CONSISTENTLY WITH FLYERS, EMAILS & PRESS AND I'M DEFINITELY NOT GOIN BACK TO MARYLAND ANYTIME SOON, I HUSTLE HARDER THAN MOST.
> Could you tell us more about this magic pill called “OXYCONTIN”? You put a quite virulent critic about this on your website…what do you wanna say about that? <
MAGIC? MAN I WOULD CALL IT ILLMATIC. BUT YEAH SOME ADDICTED MOM FROM MIDDLE AWERICA WROTE TO ME ABOUT HER SON WHO WAS AN ADDICT TO THESE PILLS AND HAD A REALLY BAD ACCIDENT. OXY CONTIN IS LIKE SYNTHETIC HEROIN FOR THOSE THAT DON'T KNOW. SO YEAH THIS LADY WROTE ME AND KINDA SAID THAT I WAS GLORIFYING THE DRUG AND TO BLAME FOR MANY YOUNG KIDS ADDICTIONS TO THE PILLS. SHE WAS BUGGIN. YOU'RE GONNA KNOW IF SOMEONE IS ON OXYS, ITS JUST VERY OBVIOUS THE EFFECT IT HAS ON SOMEONE. SO YEAH I THOUGHT ITS WAS INTERESTING, BECAUSE THE APPLE DOESN'T FALL FAR FROM THE TREE.

> So now, your also spining some records and recording some stuff yourself…what’s next? <
YES, I DJ TWICE A WEEK NOW AND GET OFFERS TO DJ PRETTY OFTEN. I'VE BEEN BEAT MATCHING AND IT'S A TON OF FUN. I GET REMIXES AND WHITE LABELS SOONER THAN MOST PEOPLE SO I ALWAYS PLAY HOT NEW SHIT. I HAVE ALSO BEEN RECORDING WHICH IS ALSO VERY EXCITING. IM WORKING ON A MIXTAPE THAT WILL FEATURE MY SONGS AS WELL AS OTHER ARTISTS THAT I LOVE, IT SHOULD BE DONE IN AUGUST SO I HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO.

> What about planning on organising some parties in Paris for example? What do you think about night life there? <
I AM DOWN FOR PARIS ANY DAY, ANY TIME. I LOVE IT THERE, CRAZY FASHION SENSE!!! THE TTC BOYS HAVE BECOME MY BROTHERS, THEY ARE ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR ME AND I AM ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR THEM. TEKI IS THE MAYOR OF PARIS, CUIZI IS THE PIMP OF PARIS, TIDO IS THE ANGEL OF PARIS AND ORGASMIC IS THE ORGASM OF PARIS. WHAT A TALENTED, GORGEOUS AND NICE GROUP OF MEN. TTC IS MY SHIT, SO IN TURN PARIS IS MY SHIT. THE NIGHTLIFE IS GREAT, PARISIANS GOT MAD STYLE. THE CLUBS ARE SO ILL TOO.
RESPECT!

American Museum of Natural History

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

How did I never discover the amazingness that is AMNH? I can’t believe I live in New York and waited this long to see this museum and I feel like I’ve been missing the entire UWS. I’ve done the Met, Moma, Guggenheim even the Cloisters upup town, mostly because the first year of art school demands this of you. I’m kinda surprised a drawing class never made us draw dinosaurs in AMNH. Nevertheless, I just experienced the greatest museum NYC has to offer. I’m thinking of becoming a member because you can’t possibly enjoy this museum in 1 day. Ma + Pa Cottontail have been visiting for a week and we’ve been talking about this museum for a couple years. The day finally came and I couldn’t stop taking pics. I even discovered my new alias: Oxy Sylvilagus Floridanus. That’s latin for Cottontail.

Mad kids in the Planetarium. Asteroids and all types of craziness, too cool for school.
cosmicollisions.jpg

We watched a film in the Planetarium called “Cosmic Collisions”. It makes you feel super teeny tiny, the theater is a half sphere and you feel like you’re on Jupiter. Basically the Milky Way galaxy is a very big place and could one day collide with the galaxy Andromeda. Also, gravity is the shit. Last night at Sway I got into a deep convo with my friend Paloma and her friend Tim. He basically said there is an entire belt of asteroids circling us, Big Bang coould happen again any day. And there is a planet out there thats just frozen water and frozen fish fall from the sky and land in Kansas. WTF?

Moby Dick makes you feel very small.

Thank you Richard Archbold! Such a good dude.

THE COTTONTAIL
Sylvilagus Floridanus

Over much of the country the Cottontail is well known. Give it a sufficient cover of tangled briers in which to hide and civilization has no terrors for it. It is as much at home in a town or city as on a deserted farm. The Cottontail is very prolific…...”
For details, please enlarge this. Worth the read, I shoulda known the AMNH would know my Geographical Distribution, we are talking American History here. Duh!

Every animal you could ever think of and why. Birds, beetles, crustaceans, anteaters, clams, goats, mammals, fish, etc. It was too much to take in. I’m buying a membership.

Diplo came through.

There were also special exhibitions on Darwin and LIVE! Snakes + Lizards but you can go see that for yourself. The IMAX movie on caving was sick too. Who wants to go? I’m D.

Stained Class….

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

stainedclass.jpg

My father made this for me after my mom got him into a stained glass class after they retired. Isn’t he amazing?!? It blings and blangs in my window for all to see. Ma + Pa Cottontail are in NYC tonight too and I will be bringing them to SOHO 323! They’re still crazy retired and travelling and chilling and lamped out, I’m jealous.

Kareem Black is shooting me there so I’m about to get dolled up!
