THANKS, RALPH

As I walked to class today I was plagued by a multitude of annoyances that prevented my enjoying the nice weather: sun glare, cat-calling, forgetting my parliaments, dropping my iced coffee all over Washington sq. park south because the condensation on the cup made it really slippery, and the incredibly obnoxious noise of a girl rolling her suit-case in front of me ridiculously slowly -a suit-case so large I couldn’t even pass her on the narrow sidewalk. On days like these where my own clumsiness and every-day frustrations with the universe collide, all I want to do is go to my happy place: The Ralph Lauren store aka the Rhinelander Mansion. Welcome to 867 Madison ave. I ascend the hand-carved staircase to the home department and just sit on the plushly plaid sofas and exhale. The staff understands that I’m not there to buy, yet they still offer me a beverage and a brochure. There are no popped collars or obnoxious horse logos present, it is empty of any polo by Ralph Lauren wares that end up in a sad discount bin at Marshalls: this is an abyss. Discover it for yourself.
