Would you Be Mine? No? That’s OK…

It’s about that time to start giving sessy little gifts to the one you love/lust or staying in and watching movies entirely unrelated to the day with your cat/teddy bear/rasinette/man hunt pal/a bunch of friends. I’m here to give you a few gift ideas, a few film ideas and just a few notes in general. So, enjoy the pearls I’m about to cast before you all. Take notes, OK? This is gonna be good.

For the woman who has everything? Cray cray lingerie and sessy accessories, of course!!

(we can only hope, the one who’ll be receiving your gifts of lingerie looks like Ms. von Teese or this headless horse-man)

.
For the big spender? Try this Agent Provocatuer $900+ Swarovski encrusted Harlequin mask.

And for the thriftier among us (probably everyone I know) this rosette-ed corset from Fredericks of Hollywood is pretty awesome and only $64.

And if you’re looking for a not so sexual answer, go for a nice card, a bottle of wine or some flowers. Valentines are an old tradition, very popular at the turn of the century. Here are a few cute vintage examples, for the crafty and frugal among you who might be interested in making your own.

Hello Kitty Valentines always seem like a good choice for anything. So if you want to but your Valentines Day cards, buy away! Get some Hello Kitty cards via Amazon here. Just make sure, you keep the Hello Kitty involvement in whatever relationships develop in check. No one wants this happening.

As far as other gifts go, candy can be cute, but isn’t always the answer. Chocolate may be an aphrodisiac, but it’s also full of fat and too much of a good thing, is, you guessed it, bad. This…

You get the picture.

You want a guilt free, Valentine’s Day? Get drunk with your friends and watch some movies. I would suggest non-sappy, non-lovey dovey crap. Avoid anything with Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant or Meg Ryan.

I’d suggest the classics: Casino,

Best in Show (more on that later),

Fight Club

or perhaps To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.

And lay off the beer. Stick with box wine, Carlo Rossi or bargain bin bubbly, something jokingly romantical that won’t make you feel totally awful the next day.

It is a Monday,  you know. But it will be the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and yes, the pup-olution will be televised on USA and NBC, so get involved with the best kind of puppy love, the kind from real puppies!!!

(This little love button is called Cheerio. Oop! There’s your heart. I picked it up when it fell out of your chest.)

And don’t worry if your Valentine’s Day isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. It’s really just any other day. And even if you think of it as a holiday, then you know that means that it happens every year.  Even if you have a blast, just remember love is a beautiful and powerful thing. We can find it at every turn. In our parents or siblings, in our neighbors and friends, in our crushes or lovers, in a stranger’s kind gesture or a shopkeep’s hello, in a pet’s loyal eyes or the wink of cute guy or girl on the corner. It is all around us. In the ugliness and sorrow that always abound, all we can hope to relish every once and a while is brief moment of joy, a smile and a laugh. A little bit of love. And although there’s one day we have somehow managed to crown the best day to love and be loved, it’s just as good any other day. To quote Charles Dickens, “In every life, no matter how full or empty one’s purse, there is tragedy. It is the one promise life always fulfills. Thus, happiness is a gift, and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes, and to add to other people’s store of it.” To me, this means, spread the love and have a happy Valentine’s Day, no matter how you spend it or with whom.

Much love,
