So before you throw shade on this blog post I’m gonna go ahead and attempt to cover my ass by saying this: in this line of work I am inundated with new music. And, it’s quite often that unless something is played repeatedly out or in my face all the time, sometimes things, tracks, tapes even, albums, slip under the ol’van Peebles radar. But, I do manage to get around to things eventually, mostly thanks to my equal-opportunity-shuffle feature on my iPod. Sure, it plays showtunes and Christmas music sometimes when it’s not really appropriate but sometimes it throws me a bone and plays me lots of loverly tracks that while not brand spanking new have some fucktastic amazingness to offer. This “van Peebles Shuffle” feature will attempt to make right those wrongs, and in some sick way, give a good old fashioned “well done” to my lil iPeezy. So without further ado, the meat in this sandwich starts here.

While walking to my day job the other day, I decided to switch out my regular metal playlist for the mysteries of shuffle. And boy am I glad I did. As you all know, Larry Tee’s Club Badd album was released on Ultra some months ago. My big sis Roxy had her killer track with Larry “Let’s Make Nasty” on the album.

And, claro que si, I know all ze words by this point. Buttttt… sadly to say, some of the other tracks on the album fell on deaf ears. Mine. Yeah, I know. Shameful. But somewhere between silly Perez Hilton talking about his penis,

the infamous Amanda Lepore telling me all about her pussy

and Roxy making nasty,

the remainder of the tracks got lost in the mele. NO longer!

Picture this, me walking to work up Second Avenue at 9AM wearing my stand by Goth Martens and a skirt that was probably a little too short for an office job. I’m feeling fine but not great listening to something, no doubt, fine, but not great, and then all of a sudden BAM. Something comes piping into my little ears that is so sticky and sexy and dirty and bangin that I start walking a little deeper into my hips, my shoulders shift back and forth and all of a sudden I’m GIVING an attitude with my inappropriate work attire and SERVING the construction workers at 13th street like I’m sure they won’t be served again on the 9AM shift, until Ms. Johnny Weir moves to the neighborhood and buys her coffee in bedazzled diapers and an eye mask as an accessory.

But I digress. This mood altering stuff that came in my head was off the Club Badd album. And damn if it wasn’t great. Larry is a genius and a total doll and it is no surprise he would put out a whole album of fun bangers for all of us party rats out there.

It was so intense that it got to the point where I was forced to take out my iPod, navigate away from shuffle, go into my albums and just listen to the whole Club Badd album track to track, back to back. I never do that. I’m too aurally ADD. But for one ambulatory commute Larry cured me of that problem and I got down like I was in one of those old iPod commercials where the shadow people are dancing so hard in their heads. That was me.

And maybe a little of dancing on the outside went down too. But I always keep it classy, you know this, bunnies.
