” L’enfant Terrible”
Where do you even begin when it comes to Lee Alexander Mcqueen? I guess it would be apropos to begin at the end. The whole world is mourning the untimely & very unexpected death of fashion icon Alexander Mcqueen. Best known for his outlandish work Mcqueen was a regular household name. The four time Fashion Designer of the Year winner was perhaps most infamous for outfitting EVERYONE! From Lady Gaga to Rihanna to Janet Jackson to Madonna but if you really know your fashion history you know that Alexander Mcqueen worked as the head designer at Givenchy for five years before going on to find his own labels AlexanderMcQueen and McQ.
The “hooligan of English fashion” was more than just an awe inspiring legend. He amassed a number of triumphs before his passing. He was one of the youngest designers to win “British Designer of The Year” which he won between 1996 and 2003. He collaborated with Gucci Group with plans to open stores in London, Milan, and New York. He also partnered with Puma (to create a special line) and also became the first designer to join MAC’s promotion that featured make-up created by fashion designers.
It is quite obvious that Lee Mcqueen was not only innovative and ahead of his time in his designs but as an overall person. All of this success by the age of 40. It will be hard NOT to miss a man so great so unique so strong in his convictions which is so evidently displayed in his works. The self proclaimed “pink sheep of the family” once said, “I don’t really believe in flooding the market with loads of goods that don’t mean much, and (you) lose your identity.”. We will greatly miss this haute couture untouchable……
