Banh Mi…Sandwich Sensation
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009
Bánh mì is a traditional Vietnamese sandwich served on a whole wheat baguette. The baguette is slathered with mayonnaise and butter and then stuffed with thinly sliced daikon, cucmbers, pickled carrots, peppers, pork, and tofu. Recently, Bánh mì sandwich shops have been popping up all over our fine city. Some of the chefs choosing to stay true to the traditional setup and some choosing to infuse local flavors into this classical Vietnamese dish. Whether you stick to the classical script or try an updated sandwich that might incorporate, polish sausage, miracle whip, and apple cider vinegar…put this dish on your list of things to try this summer. If you’re in BK stop at Silent H (79 Berry Street @ N9th) to try a classic sandwich with a modern twist. Silent H was rated the number one Vietnamese restaraunt in all of New York by The New York Observer, so you’ll be in good hands. You might also try Baoguette (61 Lexington Avenue, btwn 25th street and 26th street). Be prepared to become addicted.
